ORLANDO, Fla. – The Mount Saint Mary College women’s tennis team, champions of the Skyline Conference, split a pair of matches during a spring trip to Florida. The Knights defeated Division II Northern State University, 7-2, before falling to Albion College, 8-1.

Against Northern State, the Mount got off to a quick start with a sweep of the doubles action. Freshman Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) and sophomore Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) earned an 8-4 victory at first doubles, while juniors Rebecca Schwartz (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Lindsay Searle (Unionville, Conn.) held on for an 8-6 win at second doubles. Freshmen Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and Jennifer Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) teamed for an 8-3 win in the third position.

Murphy-Goldberg played an excellent match at first singles, eventually prevailing 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in a match that took nearly three hours. Searle was a straight-set winner at second singles, while Jen Gregory captured two tight sets (6-3, 7-5) for a point at fifth singles. Freshman Linnea Mowat (Cornwall, N.Y.) emerged with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the sixth singles position.

Albion College turned the tables on the Knights, capturing all three doubles points. The Britons would go on to take five of the six singles points for an 8-1 win. Searle provided the only victory for the Knights, nabbing a 6-3, 7-5 decision at second singles. Emily Gregory battled to stay in the match at sixth singles and forced a third set before falling, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

The Knights return home to continue their spring schedule in preparation for the NCAA Division III Tournament in May.
