Mount Rolls Past Sage

TROY, N.Y. – With yet another nice all-around effort, the Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team defeated the Sage Colleges on Wednesday night, 76-34. The Blue Knights won their fourth game in a row to move to 15-4 overall (12-1 Skyline). The Gators fell to 8-11 (6-8 Skyline).

Despite shooting just 7-for-22 (23.3-percent) from the floor in the first half, Mount Saint Mary led 32-15 at the intermission. The Blue Knights benefitted from a 16-of-18 mark at the free throw line and also limited Sage to just six field goals (22.2-percent).

The Mount extended their lead throughout the second half with the final margin of forty-two as the largest of the game. The Blue Knights shot16-of-31 (51.6-percent) in the final twenty minutes and used runs of 8-0 and 14-0 to put the Gators away.

Freshman Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) led all scorers with 14 points and also grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds. Senior Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 13 points with seven rebounds and two blocks, while senior Catie Biordi (Beacon, N.Y.) also added 13 points.

Sage frehman Kara Hackett (Peru, N.Y.) lead the team with 9 points and 10 rebounds, while junior guard Liz Donk (Phelps, N.Y.) added 8 points for the Gators.

Mount Saint Mary returns to action on February 6 in a non-conference tilt with Lehman College. The Blue Knights will take on the Lightning starting at 2:00 p.m. in the Bronx.

Matt Prescia
Baseball
Freshman Matt Prescia batted .412 with six runs scored and five runs batted in during the Skyline Conference tournament.  In an extra-inning game against St. Joseph's College, Prescia's two-run single in the top of the eleventh proved to be the difference as the Knights advanced with a 7-5 victory.  The freshman finished with seven hits in the tournament, including at least one in each game.
Christine DelPiano
Softball
Senior Christine DelPiano batted .400 and slugged 1.000 during the Skyline Conference tournament.  During a 7-6 victory over Old Westbury in a loser's bracket game, DelPiano was 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run homers.  Her two-out, seventh inning blast saved the Knights from elimination.  DelPiano recorded at least one hit in all three games.
