ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Behind 19 points and 7 rebounds from senior Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team rolled to an 82-28 victory over Bard College in the first game of the second semester. The Blue Knights improved to 9-3 overall (6-0 Skyline), while the Raptors fell to 2-7 overall (1-4 Skyline).

With a little bit of rust showing for both teams, the score was tied at four following the first four minutes of the contest. From there, Sangster scored the first four points of a 9-0 run that staked the Blue Knights to a 13-4 advantage. Then, leading 22-13 with under eight minutes to play in the half, Mount Saint Mary scored the final 22 points of the half and led 44-13 at the break.

Bard wouldn’t get closer than 29 points during the second half and the Blue Knights cruised to an 82-28 final margin. A bucket by freshman Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) at the 1:45 mark of the second half pushed the Mount’s lead to 50 points.

Sangster shot 9-for-11 from the field and totaled a team-high 19 points. Hartnett finished 6-for-11 from the floor and totaled 15 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Sophomore Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.) pitched in with 12 points, connecting twice from behind the arc.

As a team, the Blue Knights shot 47.9-percent from the field and recorded a season-best 30 assists. Mount Saint Mary limited Bard to just 12 field goals and 30.0-percent shooting.

Up next for the Mount is a trip to SUNY College at Old Westbury. The Blue Knights will take on the Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9.
