NEWBURGH, N.Y. – For the second game in a row, the Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team opened the contest on a 14-0 run before easing to a convincing victory. This time, the Blue Knights (13-4, 10-1 Skyline) defeated St. Joseph’s College (9-8, 6-5 Skyline) by a final score of 72-38.

Seniors Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Catie Biordi (Beacon, N.Y.) each had a pair of buckets during the opening run as the Blue Knights held the Golden Eagles scoreless for the first 7:51 of the game. St. Joseph’s senior Dana Carney (Patchogue, N.Y.) finally broke the ice with a free throw, but it wasn’t until under the eight minute mark when sophomore Nicole Rufrano (Patchogue, N.Y.) made the first field goal, a three-pointer.

With a thirty-three point lead at the half, Mount Saint Mary never trailed by fewer than thirty in the final twenty minutes. Sophomore Natalie Garbie (Bayville, N.J.) and freshman Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) each tallied six points in the second half as the Blue Knights rolled to the win.

Freshman Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y.) scored a team-high 13 points, connecting on all three attempts from behind the arc. Senior Chrissy Zrowka (Brick, N.J.) was also 3-for-3 from three-point land and finished with 11 points.

Carney led all scorers with 15 points, making the most of her time at the free throw line. The senior was 9-of-10 from the stripe and also grabbed 7 rebounds. The Golden Eagles shot just 20.0-percent as a team and were 1-for-16 from three. They also committed 25 turnovers.

Mount Saint Mary will host the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, January 27. The tip with the third-place Dolphins is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Kaplan Center.
