Sosler Named Head Coach for Baseball at Mount Saint Mary College
Steve Sosler
NEWBURGH, NY - Steve Sosler has been named the head coach of Mount Saint Mary College baseball program.

Sosler, who graduated from the Mount in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, has served as an assistant coach since 2004, primarily working with the Blue Knights pitching staff. A native of Florida, New York, he and his wife Nicole reside in New Windsor.

Sosler’s assistant coaches will be Mount Saint Mary College alumni Jerry Puccio '06 and Jared D’Aleo '04.

Due to the very competitive education market place, admissions work has become more than a full-time job for its administrators. As a result, Matt Dembinsky has resigned from coaching to fully concentrate on his position as assistant director of admissions.

“I am very excited to have Steve Sosler as our head baseball coach,” said Mount Saint Mary College athletic director, John Wright. “He’s been part of our baseball family as a player and assistant coach. His enthusiasm, loyalty, and passion for the team are second to none. At the same time, I’d like to recognize and thank Matt for his outstanding contributions to the program. He leaves a solid foundation for continued success.”

As a pitcher for the Blue Knights, Sosler amassed a won-loss record of 16-7 and was part of two NCAA Division III Championship appearances (1998 and 1999). He was the winning pitcher when the Mount knocked off the College of Staten Island to capture the Knickerbocker Conference title in 1999. He also pitched the Mount to its first NCAA tournament victory in 1999, a 6-1 victory over SUNY Cortland. Sosler was a Skyline Conference second-team all-star and a New York State Collegiate Baseball Coaches Association all-star.

“I want to thank John and the College for the opportunity to continue the great tradition of Mount Saint Mary College baseball,” said Sosler, who is delighted with his newest opportunity. “With a strong core of players returning, I am looking forward to the season and building on the solid foundation that has been established.”

Mount Saint Mary College sponsors men’s and women’s soccer, basketball, swimming, cross country, and tennis, as well as baseball for men, and softball and volleyball for women. The Mount will offer lacrosse as a club sport for men and women this fall, and will be eligible for lacrosse NCAA competition in 2010-11.
