DelPiano Named to Skyline First Team; Orender, Scott on Second Team

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Junior Christine DelPiano (Orange, Conn.) was named Skyline Conference first team on Monday evening as the all-conference teams were announced for softball. Mount Saint Mary College also had two representatives on the second team in freshmen Danielle Orender (Wall, N.J.) and Destiny Scott (New Paltz, N.Y.).

DelPiano, who served as the team’s full-time catcher for the first time, finished the season with a batting average of .333. She led the team in runs batted in (25) and doubles (9). The junior was second on the team in slugging at .484 and on-base percentage at .432. She committed just five errors while playing in and starting all 34 games.

Orender, second team all-conference as a shortstop, closed out a spectacular debut season with batting average of .350. The freshman led the team in total bases (47) and hits (36) and tied for the team lead in runs scored with 22. She posted an on-base percentage of .417 and a slugging percentage of .456.

Scott, a versatile player who spent time at second base, shortstop, and in the outfield, was named to the Skyline second team as a utility player. Scott was red hot at the plate down the stretch and finished with a batting average of .330. The freshman recorded a team-best four triples and posted a slugging percentage of .443.

The Blue Knights finished 13-23 overall, 7-7 inside the Skyline Conference, and were eliminated in the loser’s bracket final of the Skyline Conference tournament.

Matt Prescia
Baseball
Freshman Matt Prescia batted .412 with six runs scored and five runs batted in during the Skyline Conference tournament.  In an extra-inning game against St. Joseph's College, Prescia's two-run single in the top of the eleventh proved to be the difference as the Knights advanced with a 7-5 victory.  The freshman finished with seven hits in the tournament, including at least one in each game.

Softball
Senior Christine DelPiano batted .400 and slugged 1.000 during the Skyline Conference tournament.  During a 7-6 victory over Old Westbury in a loser's bracket game, DelPiano was 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run homers.  Her two-out, seventh inning blast saved the Knights from elimination.  DelPiano recorded at least one hit in all three games.
