NEWBURGH, NY – As part of the Mount Saint Mary College athletic department community service initiative, Blue Knights in the Community, the baseball team volunteered at the City of Newburgh-sponsored, Jack O’Lantern Jubilee, held on Sunday.

Members of the team donned costumes and masks and were responsible for the haunting of the Haunted House at the Jubilee. They worked from noon until 5:00 p.m. and witnessed lines that stretched out the door for most of the afternoon.

“The guys really worked hard,” said head coach Steve Sosler. “The Haunted House was the hit of the day and I’m glad that we were able to lend a hand in making the Jubilee a successful event.”

The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team had just finished their fall practice season and will gear up for the official collegiate season in the spring. The Blue Knights open up play on Saturday, February 27 against Rutgers-Newark.

Freshman Matt Prescia batted .412 with six runs scored and five runs batted in during the Skyline Conference tournament.  In an extra-inning game against St. Joseph's College, Prescia's two-run single in the top of the eleventh proved to be the difference as the Knights advanced with a 7-5 victory.  The freshman finished with seven hits in the tournament, including at least one in each game.
